This is excellent Trish! Even for younger kids the sweet snacks are a problem. I recommend the same thing - preparing fruit (peeled, cut, sliced, etc.) and putting it out. Humans are lazy by nature, so kids and teens are more likely to eat something if it is already prepared for them. When you have the fruit washed and cut so all they have to do is put it in their mouths, it's even easier than opening a bag of potato chips!

It is a very good article. I feel that healthy food choices alone is a part of the solution. I read that Phyiscal Education is being reduced/elimated in schools. Studies show that in European countries, physical education helps students do well in school, good self esteem etc.

It reminds me of my childhood. I got "junk food" meals on New Year's Day, Super Bowl Sunday and on road trips. Junk food meals was seen as a treat.
